Photon Wave Mechanics in the Eikonal Limit: Diamagnetic Field-plasma Interaction
نویسنده
چکیده
A microscopic eikonal theory based on photon wave mechanics is established. The diamagnetic (solid state) eld-plasma interaction is shown to play a central role in the theory, and this interaction enables one to introduce a massive transverse photon concept. This quasi-particle enters the eikonal theory in manner similar to the one in which the classical point particle enters Newtonian Mechanics in the Hamilton-Jacobi formulation. When the spatial uctuations in the stationary-state plasma density are of importance the microscopic eikonal theory becomes a spatially nonlocal theory, and the nonlocality, originating in the coupling of longitudinal and scalar photons to the massive transverse photon, extends over neareld distances.

We have studied the formation of relativistic solitary waves due to nonlinearinteraction of strong electromagnetic wave with the plasma wave. Here, our plasma isrelativistic both in temperature and in streaming speed. A set of equations consisting ofscalar and vector potentials together with a third order equation for the enthalpy inphoton gas plasma is obtained analytic...

The relativistic Dirac Hamiltonian that describes the motion of electrons in a magnetic field contains only paramagnetic terms ~i.e., terms linear in the vector potential A! while the corresponding nonrelativistic Schrödinger Hamiltonian also contains diamagnetic terms ~i.e., those from an A operator!. We demonstrate that all diamagnetic terms relativistically arise from second-order perturbati...

Approximating light charged point-like particles in terms of (nonextremal) dilatonic black holes is shown to lead to certain pathologies in Planckian scattering in the eikonal approximation, which are traced to the presence of a (naked) curvature singularity in the metric of these black holes. The existence of such pathologies is confirmed by analyzing the problem in an ‘external metric’ formul...

The Kompaneets theory of photon kinetic evolution due to the Compton effect in the absence of absorption and emission is extended to the case of the Vlasov plasma wave oscillations. Under the assumption that the electron distribution function at equilibrium is perturbed by a solution of the linearised Vlasov equation in the long-wavelength limit, a solution of the Kompaneets kinetic equation fo...
